This month, 30 years ago, a little anime premiered on FujiTV that would still be airing even more freaking episode all these years later. Dragon Ball’s first episode aired on February 26th 1986. Welcome to your Dirty Thirties, Dragon Ball!
For this little evolutionary chart, I tried to stick to whomever was the series character designer’s episodes, rather than picking at random. So 1986-1991 are Minoru Maeda drawings, 1992-1996 are Tadayoshi Yamamuro drawings, and then things started to get muddy. For 1997, I wanted the last episode, which was drawn by Naoki Miyahara. 2003, 2004, and 2005 were drawn in-house by Toei animation, but I have no idea by whom. 2008-2013 we’re back to Tadayoshi Yamamuro, then for 2015 it’s Osamu Ishikawa, and for 2016 it’s either Shūichirō Manabe, Kazuhiro Koyama, or Tatsuya Oka.
